Perfumes can be classified into several types based on the concentration of fragrance oil (fragrance concentrate). The concentration affects the scent intensity, longevity, and overall price of the perfume. The range generally extends from the most concentrated type, Parfum, to the lightest type, Eau Fraîche. Each type can be selected according to the occasion, environment, or individual preference.
Parfum / Perfume
Parfum has the highest fragrance concentration, typically around 20–40%. It can last for approximately 10–12 hours or longer, depending on the fragrance profile. Fragrances with rich and heavier base notes, such as oriental, vanilla, and musk, generally provide longer-lasting performance. Parfum is usually the most expensive type and is suitable for evening events, parties, special occasions, or formal occasions.
Eau de Parfum (EDP)
EDP typically contains around 15–20% fragrance concentrate and can last approximately 6–8 hours. It is one of the most popular perfume types because it offers a good balance between luxury, fragrance intensity, longevity, and everyday usability.
Eau de Toilette (EDT)
EDT generally contains around 5–15% fragrance concentrate, with approximately 10–12% being a common concentration range. It typically lasts around 3–5 hours. EDT is generally more affordable and is suitable for everyday use, particularly in the office or during the daytime, as it provides a lighter and fresher fragrance experience.
Eau de Cologne (EDC)
EDC typically contains around 3–5% fragrance concentrate and lasts approximately 2–3 hours. It is characterized by a light, clean, and refreshing scent profile. EDC is suitable for younger consumers or for refreshing and reapplying throughout the day.
Eau Fraîche / Body Mist
Eau Fraîche and Body Mist are among the lightest fragrance formats, with a relatively low fragrance concentration. A Body Mist may contain approximately 3% fragrance concentrate and typically lasts around 1 hour. The formulation generally contains a high proportion of water, together with alcohol and other ingredients, providing a light and refreshing sensation. It is particularly suitable for hot weather or use after exercise, and can be reapplied throughout the day.

Perfume refers to a finished fragrance product formulated by combining fragrance concentrate, alcohol, and/or water, specifically designed for application to the body. Examples include Eau de Toilette (EDT) and Eau de Parfum (EDP).
Fragrance oil / Fragrance concentrate is a broader term that refers to a fragrant composition or fragrance material. It may contain a combination of natural extracts, essential oils, and synthetic aroma ingredients. It is typically used as a raw material in the formulation of various products, such as cosmetics, soaps, personal care products, and perfumes.
